Let snake season begin!
Welp, that time of year has arrived. The time when I have to watch EVERY SINGLE DAMN STEP I take. I went out for a 2.5 to 3 hour easy jog this morning at Government Canyon – a large Natural Area in San Antonio where it’s easy to get long runs in. No more than 30 minutes in to the run, I was caught off-guard by a rattling/hissing noise.

Bandera 100k
It's a surreal scene, the finish line of an ultra at 3 a.m. Months of training, nearly a day spent arduously and painfully moving forward by any means possible. All for a couple claps, a small award, maybe a handshake from the race director. That's it. This is no place for egos or self-righteousness. And that's what makes it worth it. Sometimes we have to be stripped of our ego, our bodies beaten down, to reveal how strong our spirit can be. And sometimes it takes that repeated exposure for our core to grow.... View Post

Capt. Karl’s series comes to an end
I tried taking some S-caps early, and pouring cold water over myself for a bit at the aid station. I tried taking on some salty food and started hiking more frequently, to lower my heart rate a bit.
